About the Author(s) or Editor(s)
Professor Taiji Nishizawa is Professor Emeritus at Tohoku University and an Advisor to Sumitomo Metal Industries, Ltd. He holds a B. Sc and D. Eng. degrees in Material Science from Tohoku where he taught. He has also been a visiting researcher at the Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden.
Professor Nishizawa has served as Vice President, Iron and Steel Institute of Japan; President, Japan Institute of Metals; Chairman, Japanese Committee for Alloy Phase Diagrams. In addition to authoring over 150 technical papers, he has been Associate Editor, Bulletin of Alloy Phase Diagrams; Associate Editor, (CALPHAD); Representative of Japan, Alloy Phase Diagram International Commission (APDIC); Associate Editor, Journal of Phase Equilibria, and is currently Associate Editor, Journal of Phase Equilibria and Diffusion.
A small selection of his many professional awards include The Meritorious Award, The Japan Institute of Metals (1970), Gibbs Triangle Award (1994), Honda Gold Medal Award The Japan Institute of Metals (1998), Gold Medal, The Japan Institute of Metals (2001), Best Paper Award The Iron and Steel Institute of Japan (2002), Tawara Gold Medal, The Iron and Steel Institute of Japan (2005), and the Hume-Rothery Prize, Institute of Materials, Minerals Mining (2007).
The translation is supervised by Professor Kiyohito Ishida, Graduate School of Engineering, Tohoku University. Professor Ishida is the current President of the Japan Institute of Metals and is also an Associate Editor of the Journal of Phase Equibibria and Diffusion.
