Designed for the first courses in statics and dynamics offered in the sophomore or junior year, this textbook introduces vector analysis early and uses it throughout (a parallel text, Mechanics for Engineers, limits the use of vector algebra to the addition and subtraction of vectors, and omits vector differentiation entirely). Both sections of the book treat particles and rigid bodies separately (in part one, statics of particles are covered first), so that practical applications are introduced early on. Each chapter contains sample problems with solutions, end-of-chapter problems and computer problems, and a review and summary.
